MODEL: Some more pics of hand-held gaming system 3D Model

15 09 2008

I thought you might like to see a few more pics of the hand-held scientific instrument or gaming system or remote control or whatever. It is designed to be more of a universal model (one that could be used in one application as a hand-held game and as a hand-held spectroradiometer in another) then a very specific one that way it has more appeal to potential users.

I thought it might be nice to show it off with a few more materials like sparkly plastic, gel rubber buttons, and boing-oing pink aluminum. Plus I wanted to show the back with the battery compartment open. Please leave your comments, I’d like to know your thoughts (plus your opinion of my model :) )

What is this?
I gather you’ve created the model, is the gadget your design too?

Yes, I designed and modeled it myself. It was specifically designed to be adaptable to various applications. In one case, you could use the model, perhaps with a bit of remodeling, as a hand-held game unit and then in another application use it as a hand-held scientific instrument such as a spectroradiometer or spectrum analyzer.

Okay, thats cool.
You should model and texture some variations on the controls and show some pictures of that (maybe even a rundown of what the buttons do etc) – really, it’s the controls that effect how usable or diverse a device can be.

The original use was to allow engineers to visualize the tablet (landscape) format of the hand-held versus the upright (portrait) format of say, something like a calculator, in a round-robin set of meetings about an instrument redesign. That’s why I didn’t pay much attention to the controls other than to stick a sampling of them on the instrument.

You make a very good point though so I will try modeling in some control variations when I can.

Thanks!
